Home Study Program: Technology of Satellites

This Home Study Program will focus on how the technology of satellites touches our everyday lives in countless ways, down to our youngest learners and their use of technology.

Event Details:

With this year’s World Space Week theme being ‘Satellites Improve Life,’ our Home Study Day theme is ‘Technology of Satellites’. The Space Foundation Discovery Center will be teaching about the progression of satellite technology right up to present day CubeSats – which are smaller, more economical satellites to launch, yet still provide valuable data.

This Home Study Program will focus on how the technology of satellites touches our everyday lives in countless ways, down to our youngest learners and their use of technology.

  • Science On a Sphere® presentation – Satellites Role in our Lives
    • Hourly on the :05
  • Lab Experience – Mars Yard open to all
  • LIVE standards-based lessons- Build your own Satellite model
    • Two hour-long sessions: 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. & 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.
    • Both sessions suitable for grades K-12 (Different grade levels will complete different tasks)
  • El Pomar Space Gallery – Artifact highlights, real world connections
    • Scavenger Hunt with Home Study Program Stamp Book
  • Area 52 – Self-directed hands on activities and lessons
    • Open all day
